Knowledge_Is_Power
Join us for “Knowledge is Power”, a series of intensive workshops to prevent domestic and family violence (DFV) in Queensland.
 
Our workshops will provide the participants a comprehensive understanding of DFV, its impact on well-being, and how to avoid it through self-empowerment. Through our workshops, you will reflect on your past experiences, learn from your successes and challenges, and develop skills to plan and achieve your goals. You will also build resilience to face any future crisis or disaster. Finally, it is a golden opportunity to learn how creative writing can heal trauma.
 
The project consists of a series of conversations, and creative and visual arts workshops, which will include food demonstrations and recipe sharing.
 
These workshops comprise ten sessions (each session is 2-3 hours long) and will include various topics covering all aspects of DFV, and. as follows:
 
1.    Understanding Domestic Violence: In this session, we will explore the definition and concept of sexual and domestic violence in the Australian context.
2.    Early Warning Signs: We will teach you how to be alert to early warning signs of DFV and adopt modern considerations of the subject.
3.    Free Self-Expression: This session will focus on the importance of free self-expression as a tool for healing from trauma caused by DFV.
4.    Finding Your Voice: In this workshop, you will learn how to develop a strong and logical voice against DFV.
5.    Empowering Women: We will provide tools to empower you and stand up against DFV.
6.    Building Social Support Networks: In this session, you will learn how to build stable, positive relationships with others and create social support networks.
7.    Protecting Yourself: This workshop will cover strategies for protecting yourself from DFV and how to contact for help.
8.    Creative Writing for Healing: In this session, we will explore how creative writing can be used to heal from trauma caused by DFV.
9.    Understanding Trauma: We will explore the nature of trauma and how it can impact individuals who experience DFV.
10. Moving Forward: In this final session, we will focus on building resilience and looking to the future with hope and optimism.
 
 
Facilitators
Dr Heba Mohtady Ali will facilitate the workshops. She is an Egyptian-born novelist and medical academic (Professor), and her entire life journey has been directed towards bettering lives. Her novels are about empowering women and describe the unfairness and oppression targeting many women from different parts of the world. She aims to enhance the resilience of CALD groups in Australia by showing the ways for free expression through creative writing and sharing experiences with like-minded people.
 
The creative art workshops will be facilitated by Prital Tina Yeganeh, a skilled visual artist. The concept is about self-expression and empowerment through arts. This is an opportunity for participants to create a number of exceptional artworks.
 
Dates & Duration
The duration of each workshop is between 2 and 3 hours. The series will commence on 15th May 2023, 4pm-7pm.

Workshops will be held at GCMAGIC, located at the corner of Verona Ave, Isle of Capri, Surfers Paradise.
